Svyatogorsk laurel

The first monks settled in the XIV and XV centuries (according to some, even in the XI century). The founder of the monastic community is Svyatogorsk Rev. Joasaph.
The first written mention of the locality "Holy Mountains" refers to 1526. It is found in the writings of the German Ambassador Sigismund Herberstein. In 1787, by decree of Empress Catherine II, Church of the monastery was abolished and he belonged to the village lands and lands selected by the treasury. In 1790, the new owner was Prince Svyatogorye Grigory Potemkin Tauride. By decree of the Holy Synod of the monastery church of the Assumption of Our Lady and St Nicholas on the rock turned into the parish, and other dismantled and taken away. To abolish the state of the monastery was almost 57 years.
